Panthers Win First Stanley Cup in Franchise History
Panthers Defeat Oilers 2-1 in Game 7
Florida Wins Series 4-3
The Florida Panthers have won the Stanley Cup for the first time in franchise history, defeating the Edmonton Oilers 2-1 in Game 7 on Monday night.
Sam Reinhart and Carter Verhaeghe scored goals for the Panthers, while Sergei Bobrovsky made 23 saves. Connor McDavid scored the lone goal for the Oilers.
It is a rarity to see a home arena invaded by visiting fans in the Stanley Cup Final, let alone in a Game 7. But Oilers fans traveled in droves and made their presence felt in Sunrise, Florida.
In Stanley Cup Final history, teams were 13-1 when leading after two periods in a Game 7. Those 1942 Maple Leafs who won the Cup are the only team to overcome a third-period deficit to win in Game 7.
