Edwards Jr. Traded to Padres for Wieck

The Chicago Cubs and San Diego Padres completed a trade deadline deal on Wednesday, July 31, that sent reliever Carl Edwards Jr. to the Padres in exchange for left-hander Brad Wieck.

Edwards Jr., 28, has a 4.05 ERA in 44 appearances for the Cubs this season. He has struck out 44 batters in 42 1/3 innings and has a 1.39 WHIP.

Wieck, 26, has a 3.86 ERA in 37 appearances for the Padres this season. He has struck out 39 batters in 37 1/3 innings and has a 1.36 WHIP.

The Cubs are hoping that Wieck can provide some stability to their bullpen, which has been one of the worst in the majors this season. The Padres, meanwhile, are hoping that Edwards Jr. can help them bolster their bullpen, which has been one of the best in the majors this season.

The trade deadline is always a busy time for teams, and this year was no different. There were a number of big names on the move, including Trevor Bauer, Mike Clevinger, and Francisco Lindor. The Cubs and Padres were just two of many teams that made moves on deadline day.
