VI Live: Drommel debuteert in hoofdtoernooi Champions League

PSV goalkeeper Joel Drommel makes his debut in the Champions League group stage on Tuesday. The Dutchman is under the bar at PSV in the home match against FC Barcelona.

Trainer Ruud van Nistelrooij had already indicated at the press conference on Monday that Drommel would make his debut in the premier club tournament. The 25-year-old goalkeeper was the first choice under the bar at PSV for years, but lost his basic place to the Mexican Walter Benitez this season.

Benitez is not fit enough to play against Barcelona. The Mexican goalkeeper was injured in the warm-up before the league match against FC Emmen (4-1) last Saturday and was therefore unable to play.

Drommel played 24 Champions League matches for PSV in the preliminary rounds in the past. The goalkeeper played his last Champions League match on 24 August 2021, when PSV was eliminated in the play-offs by Benfica (0-0, 2-1 loss).

PSV and FC Barcelona will face off in Eindhoven on Tuesday at 9 p.m. The match will be led by referee Szymon Marciniak from Poland.
